"Her three-plus, pellucid octaves, diva-like delivery and intimate sense
of a song have long made her one of the most compelling vocalists in
jazz." -Seattle Times
With her strong, agile voice, rhythmic virtuosity, and improvisational
ease, Dianne Reeves was clearly born of jazz. But music, she feels
should have "no boundaries," so her singing draws upon a world of
influences: Africa, Brazil, and the Caribbean; gospel and r&b; classic
and contemporary pop. She has recorded on the Blue Note/EMI label since
1987 and has earned two Grammy Awards. Joe Williams once said, "I think
Dianne's the legitimate extension of all the good things that have gone
on before, from Ethel Waters to Ella Fitzgerald, and Sarah and
Carmen. She is earth mother, lover, she is the hurt child, she manages to
get inside each one of those things."

"A highly intelligent improviser, with one of the surest senses of swing
in jazz." - The New York Times
Born in 1963, Chestnut began his musical career at the age of six,
playing piano at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in the hometown of
Baltimore. At the age of nine, he was studying classical music at the
Peabody Institute. In 1985, he earned a degree in jazz composition and
arranging from Boston's renowned Berklee College of Music. "I'm trying
to bring the spirit of joy to as many places as possible," says
Chestnut. By touring with his trio comprised of an upright bass and
drums, he refines the basic conception of the jazz rhythm section.

"This much talent, polish and virtuosity in a teenager may not even be
legal. he has passion, verve and talent. he's going places big time." New York Observer
The 21-year-old pianist-singer-songwriter recently released On the Moon, the follow-up to his acclaimed 2003 self titled debut, adding another accomplishment to a resume that already looks as if it belongs to an artist twice Cincotti's age. Consider a small sampling: While in high school, he gigged regularly at top clubs throughout Manhattan, studied with renowned jazz masters, starred in the off-Broadway hit Our Sinatra and performed at the White House. At the 2000 Montreux Jazz Fest, he won an award for a hard-swinging rendition of Dizzy Gillespie's "A Night in Tunisia." Last year, he reached #1 on the Billboard Traditional Jazz Charts and instantly made history by becoming the youngest solo artist to do so.
Check out Peter Cincotti in the movie Beyond the Sea, a musical biography about Bobby Darin - directed by and starring Kevin Spacey. Cincotti plays Darin's best friend and arranger Dick Behrke.

Brad Mehldau Trio
April 22nd, 2005, 8pm Sioux Falls Historic Orpheum Theatre $30-$28-$25
On-sale March 11
Call 605.335.6101 for tickets
"Universally admired as one of the most adventurous pianists to arrive
on the Jazz scene in years." - The Los Angeles Times
Brad Mehldau, like many of his contemporaries, began his career with
heavy classical training, long before he was exposed to jazz. Mehldau
has two sides to his musical personality that form a dichotomy. He is
first and foremost an improviser, and greatly cherishes the surprise and
wonder that can occur from a spontaneous musical idea that is expressed
directly, in real time. But he also has a deep fascination for the
formal architecture of music, and it informs everything he plays.
Mehldau has performed around the world since the mid-nineties with his
trio, and also a solo pianist. In addition to playing and recording
with his trio and solo, Mehldau has performed with a great number of
jazz musicians such as Joshua Redman, Charlie Haden, Wayne Shorter and
John Scofield. He has also performed outside of the jazz idiom, as on
Willie Nelson's Teatro and Joe Henry's Scar.
