Kyle Eastwood Band

Friday, November 13, 2009 at 8:00 pm

Sioux Falls Historic Orpheum Theater

$42.00 or $25.00

Growing up as the son of Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood must have been quite a production.  Jazz was always a part of the Eastwood household.  Kyle's first memory of playing was when Clint taught him how to play the left hand bass line of Boogie Woogie while he played the right hand solo over the top.  Having dabbled on electric bass as a teenager, he now also plays the upright, acoustic and double bass.  Kyle says, "My roots remain in jazz but I like adding all kinds of different flavors."

In addition to his three albums, Kyle has composed music for the Academy Award winning films, "Mystic River" (2003) and "Million Dollar Baby" (2004), as well as blockbusters "Flags of Our Fathers," "Letters from Iwo Jima," and "Gran Torino."

The Kyle Eastwood Band concert and educational workshop are funded in part by a generous donation from Chuck and Jill Point, Avera McKennan, and the Performing Arts Fund - a program of Arts Midwest funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts with additional contributions from South Dakota Arts Council, General Mills Foundation, and Land O' Lakes Foundation.

Bonerama

Friday, March 12, 2010
at 8:00 pm

Sioux Falls Historic Orpheum Theater

$38.00 or $25.00

When Bonerama struts onstage with its four-trombone frontline, you can guess it's not quite like any jazz rock band you've seen.  New Orleans' Bonerama has been recognized by Rolling Stone, hailed as "the ultimate in brass balls."  The group has also been honored as "Best Rock Band" by the Big Easy Awards 2007.  Having appeared at the Sioux Falls JazzFest in 2007, Bonerama recently won numerous OffBeat Magazine Awards and regularly tops Offbeat's trombone category.

Bonerama is something different.  This is not your traditional brass band, but a group with brass to spare - even with no trumpets or saxes in sight.  You won't want to miss their vintage funk, classic rock and free improvisation in the same set; maybe even within the same song!

Brubeck Brothers Quartet

Friday, April 9, 2010,
at 8:00 pm

Sioux Falls Historic Orpheum Theater

$40.00 or $22.00

Being the son of a jazz legend can be a daunting experience, especially if you follow in his footsteps.  The Brubeck Brothers Quartet is an exciting jazz group featuring two members of one of America's most accomplished musical families, Daniel Brubeck (drums), and Chris Brubeck (bass & trombone).  Guitarist Mike DeMicco, and pianist Chuck Lamb, complete this dynamic quartet.

The Brubeck Brothers Quartet's debut Koch recording, Intuition, impressed the national jazz media and spend several weeks in the top ten radio charts while earning enthusiastic reviews from JazzTimes, Downbeat, Boston Globe and many other respected publications.  Dan appeared with his group The Dolphins in 1994 for a young Jazz & Blues Society.  Now returning with his brother Chris- the results will be grand - times two!
