The Sioux Falls Jazz & Blues Society’s High School All-City Jazz Ensemble will perform a concert at 7:30 pm on Monday, November 19 in the atrium of the Prairie Center on the Avera McKennan campus.
The High School All-City Jazz Ensemble features students from Lincoln, Washington, Roosevelt, and O’Gorman High Schools. These students were nominated by their teachers, received high markings in all preliminary categories, and were chosen by a selection committee. The ensemble began rehearsals on October 29.
The ensemble’s director, Dr. Paul Schilf looks forward to directing this group every year. “This is a terrific opportunity for students to develop their skills and mix with the best players from all Sioux Falls schools.”
The program is a project of the Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Society which provides funding support for the project. The organization’s Educational Fund offers a supplemental source of music education in the community with the goal of exposing students to new types of music. The Society believes that music education develops musical tastes and increases appreciation for jazz and blues music and diverse cultures.
The Sioux Falls Jazz & Blues Society will also award $1000 in scholarships to be used by students to further music education.
The Concert is open to the public – all are welcome.
